Patrick 1977 vintage running shoe ad for the Ile de France

September 18, 2018

For today's post we've got an old school 1977 vintage ad by a brand called Patrick. Patrick is a sportswear company that was founded way back in 1892 and headquartered in Belgium. For a short window from the late 70s to early 80s they made a push within the American footwear market but weren't able to make it last. This brand is still very much alive though and their kicks can be found in Europe and in Japan. I've included a couple of photos of their modern day Patrick Marathon 'Made in Japan' runner so you can see what they've been up to lately.

In half an hour it's going to be you against you

When the race starts it's going to be, ultimately, you against yourself. How much punishment can you take? Will there be enough left in you for the burst at the end that will insure success? Can you convince screaming muscles and protesting tendons that, yes, they can go a bit farther? Can your feet stand another jar as they hit the running surface for the next-to-last time? And the time before that? and the time before that?

We've known about the agony of the long distance runner for over twenty-five years. We have to. For years we've made the shoes that have carried these very special people on their races.

We now are proud to present to you a brand new distance running shoe; the Ile de France. The Ile de France is made with the long distance runner in mind. This shoe incorporates the following important features: support and cupping of the heel; firm arch supports; protection of the ball of the foot; flexibility of the front sole for easy push off; more room for the toes; extremely durable and long lasting.

We would recommend that you check the Ile de France at your local dealers. They may not, however, carry a line as exclusive as Patrick shoes. If they do not, please write us and we will tell you how to get them yourself. We believe that once you get them, you will never look for another shoe. That is, until another shoe as good as this comes along. Patrick shoes are made in France and are known throughout Europe for over twenty-five years for their workmanship, style and durability.

👟 Suggested retail price $27.50

PATRICK You owe it to your feet.
