Brooks Announces

NEW VARUS WEDGE and SOFT SUPPORT SYSTEM
SCIENTIFICALLY DESIGNED TRAINING SHOES FOR THE SERIOUS RUNNER.

Brooks has developed through extensive research. the VARUS WEDGE and the exclusive SOFT SUPPORT SYSTEM w/HEEL CUP. Simply stated. these remarkable innovations provide for greater stability. increased heel and foot protection. plus greater running efficiency while decreasing muscle and tendon fatigue. 'Mg

THE VARUS WEDGE is a mid-sole wedge 1/8" thicker at the inner portion of the shoe The VARUS WEDGE offers benefits throughout the various stages of running as follows

Heel Contact or Foot Strike
Normally, initial contact with the ground is made on the outer border of the heel, hence stress is concentrated on a very small surface area causing unusual heel wear and increased shock. The VARUS WEDGE permits greater surface area of contact, distributes im-pact shock more evenly resulting in uni-form heel wear and decreased heel strike shock.

Full Foot Contact
When the entire foot is on the ground the VARUS WEDGE is thicker under the medialongitudinal arch (inner arch) hence giving support to this area. This increased support lessens abnormal pronation of the foot as the arch flat-tens, thereby making the foot a stronger, more efficient structure.

Toe-Off
Since the VARUS WEDGE at mid-stance decreases abnormal pronation, a more stable toe-off occurs.

EXCLUSIVE SOFT SUPPORT SYSTEM w/HEEL CUP by BROOKS

Research has shown that the shoe must grasp the heel at the counter area if it is to provide support and help control abnormal pronation. The Brooks Soft Support System w/Heel Cup is designed to seat the heel in the shoe for in-creased comfort and better control. The support also cushions the metatarsal heads at toe off and fills in the gap to help prevent Morton’s foot syndrome. Compression forms the SORT SUPPORT SYSTEM and a continued positive comfortable fit is insured.

These new models feature the VARUS WEDGE and SOFT SUPPORT SYSTEM WHEEL CUP

VANTAGE-430 Air cooling, nylon mesh upper, leather toe and heel, long wearing Racing Stud soles.

VANGUARD-435 Air cooling, nylon mesh upper, leather toe and heel, long wearing, natural ZigZag sole.

VICTOR-425 High-tenacity nylon upper, long wearing, Octopus suction sole.

The suggested list price of our new Super Villanova lightweight trainer is only $29.95. Now, a lot of training shoes sell for roughly that price. But the Super Villanova weighs in at a mere 270.3 grams in size 9. Which is pretty amazing, when you compare it with these other training shoes:

Shoe Weight Suggested Retail Price
Brooks Super Villanova 270.3g $29.95
Nike Daybreak 306.1g $42.95
Adidas Marathon Trainer 289.2g $39.90
Etonic Stabilizer

But just because the new Super Villanova is light, doesn't mean it's less comfortable. There's a mildly flared heel and a My/T/ Lite' midsole, which help to make the new Super Villanova comfortable and 10% more shock absorbent than it was before. The sole wears twice as long, too. That's because it's made of a new rubber compound called Brooks B-10, and it's triple reinforced at the critical heel strike point. (No wonder the Super Villanova earned a 5-Star Rating for 1980.)
MEN'S/WOMEN'S SUPER VILLANOVA

MEN'S SUPER VILLANOVA So if you're looking for a durable, lightweight training shoe at a reasonable price, try on the Brooks Super Villanova, It's a lot less shoe for the money.

Brooks Chariot 1983 vintage running shoe ad

Here’s an old 1983 vintage sneaker ad for the Brooks Chariot model runners.

Ad info is below:

Rock and roll might be good for your ears, but definitely not for your feet. Read how the new Brooks® Chariot helps control this curious problem.

Your muscles have a single job to do when you run. Move you forward. All runners, unfortunately, lose some of this forward motion the instant their foot strikes the ground. And it doesn't take a degree in medicine to figure out why. The force of heel strike sends shock waves in every direction. Much of this shock is absorbed by your shoe's cushioning. But a lot of it causes your foot to slip from side to side. Technically it's called lateral instability. We simply call it "rock and roll."

ROCK AND ROLL IS NOT HERE TO STAY
At Brooks® our commitment is to design running shoes that help you run faster, lose less energy and stay as injury free as possible. Shoes that aid the natural motion of the foot. And that means controlling the rock and roll that saps energy and leads to injuries. Such a shoe is the new Brooks® Chariot.

THE DIAGONAL ROLLBAR

With the Chariot, Brooks® introduces a totally new concept in controlling excessive motion. In the midsole area we have inserted the Diagonal Rollbar, a firmer material that increases in thickness from the outside of the shoe to the inside. It's thinner on the outside so the heel gets the cushioning it needs at heel strike. It becomes wider toward the inside of the shoe to prevent the foot from rolling too far inward or over pronating. Unlike other attempts to deal with this common problem, the Diagonal Rollbar does not throw up an inflexible barrier which might interfere with the natural motion of the foot. Rather, it provides a graduated increase that can be compared to the foot rolling up a hill. This unique solution maintains the foot in a neutral plane.

THE WINNING COMBINATION: STABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY

Along with the Diagonal Rollbar, the Chariot offers the runner a remarkable number of control and flexibility features. A few of these are: a heavy-duty heel counter that extends to the middle of the foot and is reinforced at the critical flex area where the counter joins the midsole; our exclusive Competition Last' is board lasted in the rear for stability, slip lasted up front for flexibility; a Tri-layer Footbed' system comfortably molds to the imprint of your foot after the first few runs; under it all is a new, lightweight outsole engineered for flexibility, traction and long-running wear on all types of surfaces. Let your feet experience just how good running can be in the Brooks® Chariot. It'll be music to their soles.

1988 Vintage sneaker ad for the Turntec Road Warrior

Jumping to the late 80s for a minute here’s a 1988 vintage sneaker ad for the Turntec Road Warrior runners with Z0 2 technology.. Jerry Turner developed most of the classic Brooks brand running shoes.

Ad info is below:

"Stop taking abuse. ” Jerry Turner

Slam, bang, bang. It's positively abusive— the punishment your feet take when you run. So, when an advanced cushioning material comes along, you'd want it right against your foot where it will do the most good. That's why I've put my new ZO2 in the sock liner of my next generation running shoe, the Road Warrior.

Unlike gel or air, ZO2 is not buried in the midsole. In fact, it lines my famous Anatomical Cradle. It's my new ZO2 insert—right against your heel where it can absorb the most shock.

And then there's the Cradle itself. It's scooped out of the heel area of the midsole —so your foot rests in the midsole, not on it.

The results? More stability because the Cradle keeps your foot from moving inside the shoe. Better cushioning because it concentrates your heel's natural padding where it can work best.

I've even added my newly developed Poly-Lite midsole. The lightest polyurethane midsole material available to date! It is as light as E.V.A. but vastly superior in shock attenuation and durability. So check out my new Road Warrior where you buy athletic shoes. And forget about the abuse of running. In the Road Warrior, you won't have to take it anymore.

My Anatomical Cradle" is scooped out of the midsole so your foot rests in it, not on it, for more stability. And it improves cushioning by concentrating your heel's natural padding where it works best.

Z02 insert, effective cushioning where it does the most good: right against your heel.

Brooks 1979 Super Villanova vintage sneaker ad

Here’s a 1979 Brooks vintage sneaker advertisement for the Vantage and Super Villanova model running shoes. This original print advertisement is available at our Rewind Running web store.

10% better shock absorption

2.1 Ounces lighter.

Double the wear.

WHY WE'VE DECIDED TO STOP MAKING SIX OF OUR MOST POPULAR RUNNING SHOES.

There's an old racing strategy that says: Don't look over your shoulder when you're in the lead. Well, we've taken that maxim to heart. And now that we've improved six of our most popular shoes, it just doesn't make sense to sell the origi-nals any more.

DOUBLE THE WEAR.

We've changed the rubber in our Racing Stud Sole to a new com-pound called Brooks B-22, and increased the stud length. In tests at a leading independent laboratory, our new B-22 Sole outperformed our original sole by 100%, which means you should get twice as many miles from our new and improved Vantage, Vantage Supreme and Super Villanova.

2.1 OUNCES LIGHTER.

The midsole material is new, too. It's called My/T/Lite®Foam. And in our Vantage, for example, it shaves off more than two ounces of weight. That's almost 20% less to carry. So whether you're racing or just out for your daily training run, the net weight savings is phenomenal. (More than 2 1/2 tons for the marathon, for instance.)

10% BETTER SHOCK ABSORPTION.

Our new midsole also increased shock absorption an amazing 10%. No mean feat when you consider that these shoes are already rated among the best in the world in absorbing road shock.

WHAT WE DIDN'T CHANGE.

You'll be pleased to know that we haven't changed the Brooks Sensa-tion, that tremendously satisfying feeling you get from running in Brooks shoes. Or any of our sensational Brooks features. The Varus Wedge* to control pronation. The Custom Contour Insole* for custom fit. The triple-reinforced heel strike area for longer sole wear. We haven't changed the Brooks Sensation. We've just made it more sensational.
